Take a sunny day.  

In the morning and in the evening the shadows are longer and perhaps therefore more fun to play with.

Unless you are Count Dracula your shadow will do the most amazing things, it will insert itself into the environment which can be fun, it will stretch itself over a surprisingly long distance and it will remain as steady and as patient as you the photographer.

Later in Photoshop it can be enhanced by simple measures like adjusting brightness and contrast and, of course, using the burn tool.  Ultimately all that is required to make interesting photographs of your own shadow is imagination and a large variety of shadow images to play with in Photoshop.

The pictures above might be called, representations of the self, what they do illustrate to the examiner is a keen eye for the quirky, for textures and above all a sharp sense of the way light itself behaves.

Light is obviously the medium of photography and demonstrating an awareness of light's behaviour will always impress examiners.
